Football: LionsXII clinch Malaysian FA Cup after 3-1 victory over Kelantan

The SEA Games-bound duo of Faris Ramli and Sahil Suhaimi led the LionsXII to a stunning Malaysian FA Cup triumph in front of 85,000 fans at the Bukit Jalil Stadium on Saturday evening.

Substitute Sahil's 81st-minute strike and stoppage-time penalty, coming after Faris' sixth-minute opener, gave the Singapore outfit a hard-fought 3-1 win over Kelantan, who dominated for large parts of the final.

Fandi Ahmad's troops defended valiantly to repel their opponents' incessant attacks. Goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud was in top form, twice denying Colombian striker Erwin Carrillo with his feet.

Ireland says overwhelming 'yes' to gay marriage in world first

Ireland on Saturday became the first country in the world to approve gay marriage by popular vote as crowds cheered in Dublin in a spectacular setback for the once all-powerful Catholic Church.

Just over 62 per cent of ballots cast were in favour of gay marriage, with just under 38 per cent against, official figures showed.

Only one of Ireland's 43 constituencies, Roscommon-South Leitrim in the centre of the republic, voted against the constitutional change.

Hundreds of "Yes" supporters gathered in the grounds of Dublin Castle cheered and waved rainbow flags as the results came through.

Thousands worldwide march against biotechnology giant Monsanto and GM crops

From Paris to Ouagadougou, thousands of people took to the streets Saturday to protest against the American biotechnology giant Monsanto and its genetically modified crops and pesticides.

The third annual March Against Monsanto was being held in upwards of 400 cities in more than 40 countries.

About 2,500 people staged anti-Monsanto protests in the Swiss cities of Basel and Morgues, where the company has its headquarters for Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Football: Bayern will return stronger, vows Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has vowed Bayern Munich will return stronger next season after they were crowned German league champions for the third year running on Saturday.

The Bavarian giants ended their three-match losing streak in the Bundesliga with a 2-0 win over Mainz to win their 25th Bundesliga title on the last day of the league season.

A Robert Lewandowski penalty and Bastian Schweinsteiger goal saw Bayern bounce back after defeats by Leverkusen, Augsburg and Freiburg since their league title was confirmed at the end of April with four games left.

Injuries denied Guardiola the likes of left-back David Alaba, plus wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery in the key final stages of the season as Bayern were knocked out of both the German Cup and Champions League in the semi-finals.

Bearded queen Conchita kicks off Eurovision jamboree

Austrian bearded drag queen Conchita Wurst, resplendent in a sparkly, backless purple outfit, floated onto the stage in Vienna Saturday to begin the 60th Eurovision Song Contest, Europe's annual anything-goes pop fest.

The difference this year for the clash of the catchy, corny and camp watched by around 200 million people worldwide is that Australia - where Eurovision has long had a cult following - is taking part.

But whether hunky former "Australian Idol" champion Guy Sebastian can wow the millions watching at home and professional juries in each nation remains to be seen, with tough competition among the 27 acts.
