Father's Day is the day we use to specially remember our dads and all they have done for us. They are disciplinarian, provider, guardian, adviser and leader all rolled into one, and are little boys' first role model and little girls' first protector.

Let us take some time to appreciate the men in our families, and take a look at what people have to say about fathers and fatherhood.

US President Barack Obama

The President of the United States said in an interview with NBC on June 12, 2014, that he and his wife Michelle are really proud of their daughters, Malia and Sasha, though he jokes that he sought a second term in the Oval Office so that his daughters would get a Secret Service detail.

"I think they would say that I am a good, fun dad who teeters on the edge of being embarrassing sometimes," Mr Obama said, when asked how his girls would describe him.

In his weekly address to the nation on June 14, Mr Obama also spoke about Father's Day, saying "what we give our fathers can never match what our fathers can give us".

Chelsea Clinton

In a video made for G(irls)20, a global initiative celebrating the impact fathers can have in empowering their daughters, the daughter of former US president Bill Clinton recalled how her father made every effort to be home for dinner, unless he was on a different continent.

"I am grateful to my father most of all, for always being ready with a hug, with a word of advice, but ultimately for the example he set for me, as Marc (her husband) and I think about starting our own family," she said in the YouTube video that was uploaded on June 10, 2014.

Holly Branson

The daughter of entrepreneur Richard Branson also spoke in a video for G(irls)20 that was uploaded on June 10, 2014, crediting the Virgin boss with helping her follow her dream to become a doctor.

"If every father can empower their daughter to do exactly what they want and what their passion is, that's exactly what I did. It meant that I had the drive to get the right GCSEs, the right A-levels and make it to become a doctor," she says of her father.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong

In a post on Facebook in honour of Father's Day on Sunday, PM Lee held up his father Lee Kuan Yew as the role model he is following in being a father to his own children, to always being there for them the way the senior Lee was always there for him.

He wrote: "Long after I had grown up, he gave me wise advice and taught me many important values."

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak

Across the Causeway, the Malaysian PM also paid tribute to his father, the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, who was Malaysia's second Prime Minister, saying in a tweet: "I won't be who I am today if it wasn't for my father."

Hugh Jackman

The X-Men star quipped about how he was a fan of the "patriarchal system" in an interview with E! Entertainment on June 6, 2014, a couple of days before he was to host the 2014 Tony Awards.

"I just preach to my kids that every day is Father's Day, so I expect breakfast in bed every day," he said.

Jimmy Fallon

First-time dad Jimmy Fallon celebrated Father's Day in a way that the public has come to expect: He teamed up with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to perform the "Evolution of Dad dancing" on the Tonight Show on Thursday night.

The popular late night TV host also recently appeared on the cover of People magazine with his daughter Winnie in matching clothes.

"Being a father is the most exciting, amazing thing that ever happened to me. And everything's going well on the show. My life has never been this cool," Fallon said in an interview.
