Air Algerie flight appeared to have crashed in Tilemsi, 70km from Gao in north-eastern Mali, said the airline.

The information was shared on its Twitter account.

The airline also tweeted an update on the nationalities of the passengers on board Flight AH5017.

It said 50 passengers were French, four were from Burkina Faso, eight Lebanese, six Algerians, five Canadians, four German, two from Luxembourg and one from Mali. There was also one passenger each from Nigeria, Cameroon, Belgium, the Ukraine, Romania and Switzerland.
