Pro-Russian mayor of Ukrainian town wounded by gunfire: Official

KHARKIV, Ukraine (AFP) - The pro-Russian mayor of the town of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine was left fighting for his life after being seriously wounded by gunfire on Monday, the town hall said.

Mr Gennady Kernes was "hit by a bullet in the back" during an attack by unknown gunmen, officials said.

"He is being operated on. Doctors are fighting for his life."
