Former Luxembourg premier Juncker says 'proud and honoured' at Commission nomination

BRUSSELS (AFP) - Former Luxembourg premier Jean-Claude Juncker said on Friday he was "proud and honoured" to have been named to head the European Commission by EU leaders.

"I am proud and honoured to have today received the backing of the European Council," Juncker said in a tweeted message after European Union leaders voted 26 against Britain and Hungary to put him in one of the EU's most senior jobs.
