Guatemala police rescue pregnant 10-year-old girl and 2 brothers from home

GUATEMALA CITY (AFP) - A pregnant 10-year-old and her two younger brothers have been removed from a home in Guatemala where they were severely abused, prosecutors said on Wednesday.

Police visited the home after neighbours reported signs of abuse and found the girl was seven months' pregnant, while her younger brothers, aged two and three, also showed signs of abuse, said Ms Lucrecia Salazar of the Attorney-General's Office.

Ms Salazar said when the police arrived they found the children alone at the residence in a poor neighborhood in the eastern town of San Jose la Arada.

Officials are investigating whether the girl was sexually assaulted by her stepfather, she said. The siblings have been taken to a temporary home and will be placed in the custody of a court while the authorities investigate the abuse allegations.
