The Singapore leg of the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from Dec 2-4, with tickets to the tennis event on sale from Aug 20.

Local fans will be able to cheer on the Singapore Slammers, which boasts the likes of women's world No. 1 Serena Williams as well as former men's world No. 1s like eight-time Grand Slam champion Andre Agassi, and Australia's Patrick Rafter and Lleyton Hewitt.

The owners of the Singapore team, which include Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, were unveiled at a media event on Monday. The IPTL is the brainchild of Indian doubles player Mahesh Bhupathi, himself a winner of 53 ATP Tour Titles, and is modelled after the success of cricket's Indian Premier League. The mixed team tournament will feature home-and-away ties using a shorter and quicker format.

Said Bhupathi: "It is time for innovation in tennis. We hope the fanfare the IPTL will bring for tennis the fanfare that the IPL brought to cricket." Tickets will be available on SportsHubTix from Aug 20 and start from $80 for a one-day ticket.
