SINGAPORE - It was an unusual day on Monday for Sarah Pang, the only Singaporean currently competing in the WTA professional circuit, as she had a friendly match with local radio DJs at the SPH News Centre rooftop garden's tennis court.

Arnold Gay from Kiss 92 FM was the first brave soul to step up to the plate, and managed to get a decent scoreline of 2-4 against Pang, with his club tennis background. Andre Hoeden from One FM, however, proved no match and he succumbed 0-3 to the 29-year-old.

The two local radio stations had challenged Sarah to a friendly match after she went on their programme to share her journey to becoming a professional athlete against all odds.

It was only when Gay and Hoeden teamed up to play two against one, that they narrowly managed to beat Pang.

When asked if the pair had to resort to underhand tactics to win, Hoeden admitted: "Well, two guys against her is already cheating."

Pang, who had a morning session training an hour before the friendly match, said that she got "death glares" from her coach when the DJs contacted her for the match in the morning, and was sternly told: "Focus on this training first."

Despite the lop-side encounters, everyone was in bright spirits and there was a cheery atmosphere as Maddy Barber and Jason Johnson from Kiss 92 FM brought their pompoms and original cheers to support Gay on the sidelines, while Shaun Tupaz from One FM turned up in a self-made crop top to distract Pang.
