Raffles Institution (RI) are the new National Schools 11-a-side hockey B division boys' champions, after outscoring Victoria School (VS) 4-1 in a penalty shoot-out today.

The match, held at Sengkang Hockey Stadium, drew roughly 250 supporters from both schools, who are fierce rivals in the A division but have not had a B division final clash for more than five years.

RI and VS had met two weeks before in the quarter-finals, with VS coming out on top 4-2. This time, however, it was RI who emerged triumphant from the 1-1 deadlock after scoring four goals in the tie-breaker.

"I'm very proud of my team," said RI captain Ashwin Unnithan, 16. "It's our first time winning after 10 years and we've trained so hard, all the way from the end of last year, for this."

Defending champions Northland Secondary School came third this year.
