THREE current and former Singapore athletes were inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at the Team Singapore 28th SEA Games Flag Presentation Ceremony on Tuesday evening.
The names of table tennis players and Olympians Feng Tianwei and Wang Yuegu, together with Paralympic swimmer Yip Pin Xiu, were engraved into Singapore sporting history in front of their fellow athletes at the Singapore Sport Hub's OCBC Square to rapturous applause.
The trio had placed Singapore on the world map with their feats in the sporting arena.
World No. 4 Feng won Singapore's first individual Olympic medal in 52 years when she clinched a bronze at the 2012 London Olympics.
Four years earlier, Wang, who has now retired, and Feng were part of the team which bagged Singapore's first Olympic medal in 48 years when they finished with a bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Yip, 24, the first para-athlete to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, blazed a trail for Singapore sport in 2008 when she won a gold and a silver at the Paralympic Games in Beijing.
