SINGAPORE wrapped up their campaign at the World Table Tennis Championships with a solitary bronze to show for in the women's doubles on Sunday afternoon.

The pair of Feng Tianwei and Yu Mengyu lost their semi-final clash against China's Liu Shiwen and Zhu Yuling 1-4 (11-9, 9-11, 6-11, 7-11, 4-11) at the Suzhou International Expo Centre, thus falling at the same hurdle in the previous edition in Paris two years ago.

As there are no bronze-medal play-offs, they finished joint-third with the European pair Li Jie of Netherlands and Li Qian of Poland.

The Republic's paddlers made an encouraging start, racing into a 9-5 lead before duly winning the first set.

They even led 7-4 at one stage in the second game, but the Chinese regained their composure in time to clinch the second.

Thus began the home side's ascendancy, with the sheer quality of Liu and Zhu starting to shine through.

From the third set on, normal service seemed to resume for the Chinese, with their nimble footwork and deft flicks posing problems for the Singaporeans.

The women's doubles final will be an all-Chinese affair, with the duo of Ding Ning and Li Xiaoxia taking on Liu and Zhu at 6.45pm on Sunday night.
