Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) president Lee Bee Wah announced on Friday that she will be stepping down at the association's biennial general meeting on Sept 6.

Lee first took over in July 2008, taking over from long-time STTA chief Choo Wee Khiang. Under her leadership, Singapore table tennis hit new heights, such as winning Singapore first Olympic medal - a team silver - in 48 years at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The women's team also upset powerhouses China to win the World Team Table Tennis Championships in 2010.

However, Lee said her biggest achievement was putting a pipeline in place for young Singaporean paddlers to pursue a career in the sport.

Some of the initiatives she launched the STTA-PAP Community Foundation (PCF) Kindergarten programme, and the School Within A School (SWS) programme at the Singapore Sports School.
