National swimmer Quah Zheng Wen continued his record-breaking form during the morning heats at the Singapura Finance 46th Singapore National Age Group Championships on Wednesday.

Representing Swimfast Aquatic Club, the 18-year-old rewrote the men's 100m freestyle national record with a time of 49.89sec, erasing Joseph Schooling's previous mark of 50.05 set last July.

The new record time sets Zheng Wen on course for a strong performance at this year's Singapore SEA Games in June. It would not only be enough to clinch gold, but also a new Games record at the 2013 edition, with Indonesia's Triady Fauzi Sidiq clocking a time of 49.99 in Myanmar.

The 100m free mark is Zheng Wen's second national record at the meet, held at the OCBC Aquatic Centre. On Tuesday evening, he set a new men's 100m backstroke mark after timing 55.86, lowering his previous best of 55.99 recorded last year.

The meet ends of Sunday.
