The men can get it this time - the chance to run, that is.

To spice things up, this year's Shape Run is rolling out two new categories, one of which is a 1.8km Family Fun Run for teams of two to four, in a bid to encourage fathers to join in as well.

The other new offering is a competitive 15km event, with Singapore's first all-women race also repeating the 5km and 10km events.

Registration opened on May 5 for the Shape event at Kallang Practice Track in the Singapore Sports Hub which will kick off on July 26 at 6am.

This annual run, organised by Singapore Press Holdings, has a following that has grown over the years.

More than 9,000 people took part last year while 12,000 are expected this year.

Lead-up activities include three training runs to help improve technique and performance. They are free and open to all who sign up.

A three-day Shape Run Carnival, at Raffles City Shopping Centre from July 3 to 5, will allow participants to collect their race packs and enjoy deals on fitness and wellness products and services from event partners and exhibitors.

All participants will get finisher medals and goodie bags.

Runners will also enjoy special rates when subscribing to the print and/or digital editions of Shape magazine.
