SINGAPORE - Thailand retained their SEA Games sepak takraw gold medal in the women's doubles on Monday after beating Myanmar 2-0.
Laos and Vietnam left with joint-bronzes.
The Thai duo of Somruedee Pruepruk and Masaya Duangsri maintained a steady lead throughout their two sets and won 21-14, 21-10.
Said Thailand's Masaya: "It was quite an easy match. Our coach did not tell us much before the match, other than going in without pressure and focusing on playing well."
But it was a close fight between Myanmar and Philippines in the men's doubles. After three heated rounds, Myanmar emerged victorious and clinched the gold medal with a 2-1 win. Laos and Singapore won bronzes after finishing joint-third.
In the first set, the Philippines' Jason Huerte and Rheyjey Ortouste beat Myanmar's Swe Aung Myo and Latt Zaw 22-20. Myanmar surged back to claim the second set 21-13.
The third set was a see-saw affair, with the Philippines gaining the initial lead before Myanmar tied it at 12-12. Myanmar eventually emerged out of the deadlock to win 21- 16, striking gold with a decisive drop kick from Latt Zaw.
