SINGAPORE - Singapore won its third table tennis gold medal on Wednesday night at the Singapore Indoor Stadium when Yu Mengyu and Yang Zi triumphed in the mixed doubles.

The duo met Thailand's Suthasini Sawettabut and Padasak Tanviriyavechakul in the final. The Thai pair had earlier eliminated Singapore's top seeds Zhou Yihan and Li Hu in the semi-finals.

However, Yu and Yang exacted revenge by swiftly beating Suthasini and Padasak 11-7, 11-5, 11-9, 11-6 to win the gold medal.

On Tuesday, Zhou and Lin Ye had captured Team Singapore's first gold medal of these Games by winning the women's doubles.

Gao Ning and Li then followed up with the men's doubles title.

Yu credited her partner's performance for the swift win in the mixed doubles final.

Yu said: "After our team members' loss (in the other semi-final), we made sufficient preparation.

"The good performance from my partner helped.

"We did not expect this match to go so smoothly."
