SEA Games: Singapore Airlines signs up as official airline partner of 28th SEA Games

National carrier Singapore Airlines (SIA) has lent its support to Singapore's hosting of the June 5-16 SEA Games by coming onboard as one of the Games official sponsors.

As the Official Airline Partner of the Singapore Games, SIA will offer special fares for officials travelling to the Singapore Games. Through its network of proprietary media channels - which span 60 destinations in 33 countries - the airline will also actively promote the Games.

Additionally, it will also sponsor complimentary economy class tickets to Singapore as prizes for promotional activities around the region. A key component of this engagement will be NILA's Quest - a web-based digital game specially created for the sporting event that aims to engage the regional community. The grand prize will see a winning pair from each country fly to Singapore to enjoy the Games.

SIA will also sponsor hand-held fans which are included in the fun packs that will be distributed during the preview, opening and closing ceremonies, as well as SEA Games-themed Airbus A380 aircraft models. Singapore Airlines cabin crew will also be participating in the opening and closing ceremonies.

Said Singapore Airlines executive vice-president commercial Mak Swee Wah: "As a strong supporter of both sports and tourism, Singapore Airlines is proud to be the Official Airline Partner of the 28th South-east Asia Games. We are especially honoured to support this milestone sporting event which will be held in Singapore after a 22-year hiatus, as we celebrate the country's 50th birthday this year,"

Said Singapore SEA Games Organising Committee's (Singsoc) chief, community and corporate outreach, Toh Boon Yi: "Singapore Airlines is a Singapore icon, and we are very pleased to work with a top-class partner for the 28th SEA Games."

The Games, which Singapore last hosted in 1993, will be staged at a budget of $324.5 million. Singsoc hopes to raise $50 million in sponsorships.

Athletes from 11 South-east Asian countries will participate in 402 sporting events at 31 competition venues, including the new Singapore Sports Hub and various public sports facilities.
