SINGAPORE - The Republic paddlers are on course for all-Singapore finals in both the SEA Games men's and women's doubles competitions, as all four pairings progressed into separate brackets of their respective semi-finals on Monday afternoon at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The men's pair of Gao Ning and Li Hu defeated Indonesia's Maulana Gilang and Haruri Akhmad Dahlan 11-4, 11-8, 11-9, while the other duo, Clarence Chew and Chen Feng, secured a 11-13, 11-6, 11-6, 11-4 victory over Philippines's Richard Gonzales and Rodel Irineo Valle.

Chew and Chen had earlier defeated Indonesia's Ramadhan Gilang and Santoso Ficky Supit 11-2, 12-14, 11-4, 11-7 in the round-of-16 match.

Gao and Li will face Vietnam duo Tran Tuan Quynh and Nguyen Anh Tu in the last four, while Chew and Chen tackle Thai duo Padasak Tanviriyavechakul and Chanakarn Udomsilp.

In the women's doubles, Feng Tianwei and Yu Mengyu cruised through the quarter-finals with a 11-8, 11-8, 11-4 victory over Thailand's Paranang Orawan and Khetkhuan Tamolwan after a nervous start. The other team of Lin Ye and Zhou Yihan defeated the Malaysia's Ng Sock Khim and Angeline Tang 11-7, 11-5, 11-4.

Feng and Yu will face Malaysia's Ho Ying and Lee Rou You in the semi-finals, while Lin and Zhou play Thai pair Nanthana Komwong and Suthasini Sawettabut.

While Feng and Yu struggled with a slow start to their match, team coach Jing Junhong has expressed confidence that they will be able to build on the momentum of their success.

She said: "The teams were a bit nervous today, but it is normal for the first day of matches. By successfully overcoming this nervousness, it will put them in good stead for the rest of the competition. I have confidence that they will definitely improve as the competition goes on."
