Sailor Elizabeth Yin has ensured that Singapore will also be represented in the Laser Radial event at the 2016 Olympics, after she did well enough at the Isaf World Sailing Championships in Santander, Spain.

She finished 19th overall in the 120-strong fleet, making Singapore the 15th-ranked overall nation in the event. There were 19 qualifying berths available at the regatta and each country is allowed only one slot.

Her result comes just days after teammate Colin Cheng also secured the Republic a slot in the Laser Standard event. Yin, 23, also competed at the 2012 London Games where she finished 24th.

While representation for the country is in the bag, the Singapore Sailing Federation will still conduct internal trials to decide who will eventually fly the national flag in Rio de Janeiro. Sailing is the first sport to earn qualification to the quadrennial event.
