Organisers of the OCBC Cycle 2015 have confirmed that selected race categories will finish inside the new National Stadium.

The mass cycling event, to be held on Aug 29 and 30 next year, will start and end at different locations across the Singapore Sports Hub.

A slew of safety measures have been introduced after the event suffered its first fatality at this year's edition. Full-time national serviceman Chia Wee Kiat died after suffering serious head injuries in a crash during the 59km Super Challenge.

The Super Challenge has since been scrapped, and the total number of participants will be capped at 9,000 - down from some 11,500 this year.

More route marshals and paramedics will also be deployed, while routes have been refined to reduce congestion and keep cyclists of varying abilities apart.

Samuel Tsien, Group CEO of OCBC Bank, said: "The safety of all participants is our top priority. We will work with the new organizer to put in place a range of new safety measures."

After the latest edition, OCBC terminated its contract with event organiser Spectrum Worldwide, citing a desire to inject fresh ideas into the six-year-old event.

An open tender exercise in July drew bids from 12 companies, with Pich Event Management eventually selected.

Jaymes Tan, a senior consultant at Pich Event, said: "We are mindful of the very high standards expected of us. We are all geared up to deliver an experience unlike any other for cycling enthusiasts in Singapore."

Registration for OCBC Cycle 2015 starts in March.
