Kart races, library roadshows and even a behind the scenes look at a Formula One garage.

These are just some of the new activities that Singaporeans can look forward to in the lead up to the Sept 19-21 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix.

Back for a second year, promoter Singapore GP's 2014 Rev Up Singapore! campaign will feature a mix of fresh and familiar initiatives with the aim of bringing the night race to the people.

The highlight of the campaign is the introduction of a complimentary karting training programme, which will see 120 young Singaporeans learn the sport before racing each other at the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Aug 30.

The winners of the two age categories (15-17 and 18-21) will each earn a year-long karting sponsorship, which includes a karting licence, race suit, practice sessions and race entry fees, worth $11,850.

Also new for 2014 is an Aug 31 event called Kartnival, where 500 participants will get to drive karts around the Marina Bay circuit, as well as five library roadshows featuring talks, movies and exhibits on F1's history and technology.

Making a return after their introductions last year are Singapore GP's school visits and behind-the-scene tours. The Thursday Pit Lane Experience, which last year saw 2,500 members of the public get a close-up look at the various team garages, is also back, with the added incentive of a tour of the Caterham set-up for five lucky balloters.
