Floorball: Sweden sweep university c'ships titles, S'pore women fourth

The biennial World University Floorball Championships ended on Sunday with Sweden taking both the men's and women's titles at the OCBC Arena in front of a crowd of 2,438.

The Swedish men reclaimed their title after finishing third in the 2012 edition of the event, defeating Switzerland 6-2 in a match that was dominated by them throughout.

The women's final proved to be a closer contest, with Finland coming back from 0-3 down inside seven minutes to hold Sweden to a 7-7 draw, before losing the match on penalties (0-2) after both sides failed to score in the 10 minutes of sudden death.

Elina Kujala, the Finnish women's team captain, said: "We were too passive and did not have a good start, but we woke up afterwards and played more aggressively. I am proud of the team."

In the men's bronze play-off, Finland claimed the scalp of defending champions Czech Republic with a 7-6 victory.

Meanwhile, Singapore's women fell to the sword against Switzerland in the third-place play-off, losing 0-7 to finish fourth out of six teams. The Republic's men had defeated South Korea 8-1 on Saturday to finish seventh out of the 10 teams in the men's division.
