Feng overcomes Romanian rival 4-1 to emerge victorious in Philippines Open final

Singapore's top paddler Feng Tianwei won the US$30,000 (S$38,000) Philippines Open (Challenge) today.

The world No. 7 beat Romania's world No. 26 Elizabeta Samara 4-1 (11-8, 9-11, 11-3, 11-3, 13-11) in the final. Her victory comes less than two weeks after she led the women's team to a bronze medal at the World Team Table Tennis Championships in Tokyo.

Compatriots Yu Mengyu and Zhou Yihan both lost in the quarter-finals to Japanese opponents. Yu lost 1-4 to Hina Yayata while Zhou fell 1-4 to Haruka Sakai.

Singapore's other representatives Wu Yi, Lin Ye and Isabelle Li were eliminated in the opening round.
