SINGAPORE - The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) has on Thursday approved the selection of national weightlifter Scott Wong to take part in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games from July 23-Aug 3.

Wong, who competes in the above-105kg category, lifted 312kg at the Central England Weightlifting, Nottingham Open last Saturday, and met the qualifying criteria set by the SNOC's selection committee, which is the sixth-placed result of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The endorsement follows fellow weightlifter Lewis Chua's successful appeal last month. Besides the two weightlifters, 69 more athletes will represent Singapore in six other sports.

Meanwhile. the SNOC selection committee has also endorsed a further four athletes for August's Nanjing Youth Olympic Games, in addition to the eight who have already qualified. The four athletes are Nadine Joy Nathan (girls' artistic gymnastics all-events), Jonathan Chan (boys' diving, 10m platform), Bernard Ong (boys' badminton singles) and Liang Xiaoyu (girls' badminton singles).
