SINGAPORE'S youth bowlers dominated the Boys and Girls' Open at the 38th Malaysia International Open, currently ongoing at the Sunway Mega Lanes in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
Kuek Qi En, 17, finished as champion of the Boys' Open with 2,363 pinfalls on Tuesday, while Darren Ong, 18, finished runner-up with 2,174. Muhammad Firdaus Idris from WPKL Kukma was third with 2,133.
Charlene Lim, 15, came in first in the Girls' Open with 2,127 pinfalls, ahead of Nur Amirah Auni Azman from Perlkebangsaan and Nur Ameerahusna Anzel from Kedah, who had 2,112 and 2,095 pinfalls respectively.
All three are part of the National Youth Development Programme for SingaporeBowling. Thirty bowlers from the youth squad are participating at the Open.
Darren and Charlene will be bowling in the Men's and Women's Open finals on Wednesday and Thursday, while Qi En is currently bowling to make the cut for the finals today.
Deputy head coach Francis Yeo said: "They have been in good form this year... the trip here was to enable the young bowlers to gain exposure to these kind of competitions and experience bowling against other international bowlers their age."
