A new women's singles champion will be crowned at the OUE Singapore on Sunday, after two-time defending champion Wang Yihan fell in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The world No. 7, who had won the tournament in 2013 and last year, was beaten 21-16, 9-21, 21-14 by Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu-ying, who is ranked sixth in the world.

Tai, who had out of action for two weeks before the Singapore Open with a knee injury, said she had felt rusty and never expected to beat Wang.

In the other women's singles semi-final, world No. 11 Sun Yu beat team-mate Wang Shixian (No. 4) 21-14, 11-21, 21-19 in an all-China affair.

Hong Kong's Hu Yun, the world No. 13, continued his fairy-tale run to become the first to book a spot in the men's singles final. He beat India's world no. 15 Kashyap Parupalli 20-22, 21-11, 21-14.

Hu will play Japan's Kento Momota, after the world No. 10 beat defending champion Simon Santoso (No. 38) 21-10, 21-13 in the other semi-final.
