SINGAPORE crashed 0-5 to 13-time champions Indonesia at the Thomas Cup badminton world team championships in New Delhi on Monday morning.

First singles Derek Wong was the only local shuttler who went the distance, lasting 54 minutes against Tommy Sugiarto before losing 11-21, 21-17, 15-21.

In the first doubles, Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan beat Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Chayut Triyachart 21-15, 21-16 in half an hour before second singles Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka sealed the tie by beating Huang Chao 21-17, 21-14.

In the inconsequential matches, second doubles Ryan Agung Saputra and Angga Pratama beat Terry Hee and Wong 21-9, 21-15 in just 25 minutes, and third singles Simon Santoso wrapped up proceedings against Sean Lee 21-16, 22-20.

The men play Thailand on Tuesday and finish their Group A ties against minnows Nigeria on Wednesday morning.

On Sunday, the women's squad had gotten off to a poor start in Group X of the Uber Cup, with a 5-0 thrashing by 2010 champions South Korea.

Sung Ji Hyun beat Chen Jiayuan 21-16, 15-21, 21-18, Bae Yeon Ju thumped Liang Xiaoyu 21-8, 21-16 and Kim Hyo Min overcame 2011 SEA Games singles gold medallist Fu Mingtian 13-21, 21-19, 21-16 to clinch the tie, before Jang Ye Na and Kim So Young beat Yao Lei and Shinta Mulia Sari 21-16, 21-13 and Jung Kyung Eun and Kim Ha Na outlasted Vanessa Neo and Fu 21-15, 20-22, 21-16.

They play three-time winners Indonesia on Tuesday and Australia on Wednesday.
