Badminton: S'pore men lose 0-5 to Indonesia, women crash by same score to S. Korea

SINGAPORE crashed 0-5 to 13-time champions Indonesia at the Thomas Cup badminton world team championships in New Delhi on Monday morning.

First singles Derek Wong was the only local shuttler who went the distance, lasting 54 minutes against Tommy Sugiarto before losing 11-21, 21-17, 15-21.

In the first doubles, Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan beat Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Chayut Triyachart 21-15, 21-16 in half an hour before second singles Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka sealed the tie by beating Huang Chao 21-17, 21-14.

In the inconsequential matches, second doubles Ryan Agung Saputra and Angga Pratama beat Terry Hee and Wong 21-9, 21-15 in just 25 minutes, and third singles Simon Santoso wrapped up proceedings against Sean Lee 21-16, 22-20.
