Badminton: Singapore eliminated after second loss in both Thomas, Uber tournaments

SINGAPORE'S badminton teams were knocked out of the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup competitions on Tuesday in New Delhi.

The men lost 1-4 to Thailand and the women 1-4 to Indonesia, a slight improvement from their 5-0 thrashings by Indonesia and South Korea respectively in their opening ties.

In the Thomas Cup Group A, second singles Huang Chao won the Republic's only point when Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk retired injured after losing their first game 21-23.

Boonsak Ponsana gave the Thais a solid start, hammering Derek Wong 21-11, 21-11 in just 29 minutes. Sudket Prapakamol and Patiphat Chalardchaleam beat Chayut Triyachart and Terry Hee 21-16, 13-21, 23-21 before Huang pulled Singapore back to 1-2 in the tie.
