Singapore's Under-23 football team have succeeded in their appeal for a berth at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, next month.

The team was given the green light by the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC)'s selection panel on Wednesday, despite not meeting the standard criteria of the sixth-placed mark, or beating the sixth-ranked team from the last Asiad.

Still, their surprise 3-2 win over 14th-ranked Bahrain U-23s in a friendly earlier this month was sufficient to help earn the side a ticket.

Badminton player Derek Wong, who won a historic silver medal at the Commonwealth Games last month, also got the nod from the SNOC. Others who also succeeded in appealing include the national hockey team, fencers Samson Lee, Lim Wei Wen, Willie Khoo and Lau Ywen, judokas Ang Xuan Yi, Gabriel Yi Yang and Ho Han Boon and equestrienne Catherine Chew. Singapore will be represented by a total of 227 athletes at the Asian Games, which will be held from Sept 19 to Oct 4.
