SINGAPOREANS will have little reason to not give the sporting lifestyle a chance, with those who sign up for Sport Singapore's ActiveSG movement set to be rewarded with $100 worth of credits.

Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong announced the move on Saturday afternoon, as the initiative was officially launched at Jurong West Sports Centre.

All Singapore citizens and permanent residents who sign up for its free membership scheme will automatically receive 100 Active$, which can be used to cover entry fees for swimming pools and gyms, as well as to offset the cost of signing up for programmes such as kickboxing and Masala Bhangra, an Indian dance-based workout.

As one of the key recommendations under Sport Singapore's Vision 2030 sports masterplan, the primary objective of the ActiveSG is to encourage Singaporeans of all ages and from all walks of life to take up sports and see it as a means of healthy living and family bonding.
