BELMONT, United States (AFP) - American golfer Michelle Wie could miss up to five weeks of the LPGA Tour after being diagnosed with a right hand injury, the LPGA announced on Saturday.

She has a "stress reaction in a bone of the index finger on her right hand", said a statement.

The timing isn't good for Wie as she will miss next week's LPGA Championship. The Evian Championship is also in question.

"I was looking forward to playing the next three weeks. It's honestly one of my favourite stretches on tour," Wie said. "It's extremely disappointing to miss these events, but I am relieved to have a proper diagnosis."

After winning the US Women's Open and sharing eighth at the Arkansas Championship, she missed the cut at the Women's British Open and at the Marathon Classic. She then withdrew from this week's Meijer Classic during the first round.
