Golf: Stenson retains DP World Tour C'ship title, McIlroy joint second

DUBAI (AFP) - Sweden's Henrik Stenson successfully defended his title at the US$8 million (S$10.4 million) DP World Tour Championship, the season-ending tournament on golf's European Tour, on Sunday.

He birdied the last two holes for a two-under par 70 in the final round on Sunday, to finish on 16-under par 272 and beat three of his Ryder Cup team-mates - world No. 1 Rory McIlroy (68), No. 7 Justin Rose (69) and No. 22 Victor Dubuisson (68).

The victory was Stenson's first title of the year and is expected to take him back to world No. 2 behind McIlroy when the new rankings are released on Monday.

It also assured a US$800,000 bonus for finishing second on Race to Dubai.
