As Singaporeans grieve the passing of Singapore's first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew this week, several well-known European football clubs have also come out to express their condolences.

Spanish Primera Liga club Valencia, whose owner is Singapore billionaire Peter Lim, posted on its official website a message of condolence from their Singaporean board president Chan Lay Hoon.

The message read: "Valencia CF's majority shareholder, Mr Peter Lim, and my fellow Singaporean directors of the board are deeply saddened by the passing of Singapore's founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

"Together with our fellow Singaporeans, we salute the late Mr Lee's complete devotion to Singapore. Truly, as Mr Lee Hsien Loong has said, 'We won't see another like him.'

"Our hearts go out to the family of the late Mr Lee. May they be comforted by the knowledge that he had lived life to the fullest and had left a transformative and indelible mark in this world.

"Rest in peace, Mr Lee."

English Premier League leaders Chelsea posted on their Facebook page a two-paragraph post:

Fellow EPL giants Arsenal also sent a letter of condolence via their supporter liaison officer, Mark Brindle:

German Bundesliga football club Borussia Dortmund, who have based their regional headquarters in Singapore, also posted words of condolence on their Facebook page.

The national football team, who are in Thailand for centralised training, also had a minute of silence before Monday's training, in respect of Mr Lee's passing. Defender Baihakki Khaizan posted an Instagram photo of the mark of respect.
