CARDIFF (AFP) - Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as European champions Real Madrid beat domestic rivals and Europa League holders Sevilla 2-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday to win the UEFA Super Cup.

The Portugal superstar scored either side of half-time to upstage Madrid debutants Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, as well as Wales forward Gareth Bale, who was returning to his hometown.

It is only the second time Madrid have won the Super Cup, after a previous success in 2002, and comes after they claimed their 10th Champions League title with victory over city rivals Atletico Madrid in May.
