Football: Moyes investigated over wine bar 'assault'

LONDON (AFP) - Former Manchester United manager David Moyes was being investigated by police on Thursday over allegations he assaulted a man in a wine bar.

An incident between Moyes, 51, and a 23-year-old man is said to have happened in the Lancoo

ias reported that a 23-year-old local man had been assaulted by a 51-year old man. He did not require hospital treatment.

"There are a number of differing accounts which we need to work through to try to establish exactly what has happened. No-one has been arrested at this stage." The local newspaper, the Clitheroe Advertiser, reported that Moyes was having a drink with a friend when an "alleged minor scuffle" broke out in the bar.

Moyes was sacked in April after a disappointing 10 months in charge that saw United fail to qualify for the Champions League.

He was among several names linked with the Celtic manager's job on Thursday after Neil Lennon stepped down as boss of the Scottish champions. Moyes is a former Celtic defender.
