They led the English Premier League for only 14 days, the shortest time spent on top amongst the top four, but in the end, it was enough for Manchester City as Manuel Pellegrini's side sealed the title with a 2-0 victory over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.

Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany scored either side of half-time to ensure there was no late drama in a season of many twists and turns.

The title lead changed hands 25 times, but City saw off Liverpool's challenge with a dominating victory over the Hammers to give them 86 points, two more than the Reds.

Over at Anfield, it was heartbreak for Liverpool as the Reds miss out on a title that had seemed within their grasp just two weeks ago.

The Reds beat Newcastle 2-1 - Daniel Agger and Daniel Sturridge cancelling out Martin Skrtel's own goal - but the damage was done earlier via a 0-2 home loss to Chelsea and a 3-3 draw at Crystal Palace.

Chelsea finished third and will play in the Champions League after a 2-1 win at Cardiff City.

At the other end of the table, Norwich City were relegated following a 0-2 home defeat to Arsenal, who earned the fourth and final Champions League spot.

Goals from Gunners Aaron Ramsey and Carl Jenkinson put the Canaries to the sword, who will join Cardiff and Fulham in the second-tier Championship next season.

Dethroned champions Manchester United had to settle for seventh, their worst finish in 14 years, after a 1-1 draw away to Southampton.

The Red Devils miss out on a spot in the second-tiered Europa League to Tottenham, who sealed sixth spot with a 3-0 win over Aston Villa.
