Football: LionsXII's Malaysia Cup hopes dim as Fandi gives Fandi the blues in 1-2 loss

The LionsXII fell to their second consecutive defeat in their Malaysia Cup campaign, losing 1-2 to second-tier Malaysia Premier League side Johor Darul Takzim II (JDT II) at the Pasir Gudang Stadium.

The hosts took the lead in the 20th minute when striker Syafiq Shahrudin latched onto an Alif Yusof through-pass before coolly slotting a right-footed shot past goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud.

LionsXII midfielder Hafiz Sujad levelled matters in the 51st minute when he smashed home a loose ball that JDT II goalkeeper Anis Faron spilled into his path.

However, substitute Fandi Ahmad, who shares the same name as the LionsXII coach, sealed the game for JDT II, bundling home a Syafiq cross in the 83rd minute.

The result condemned the LionsXII to the bottom of the four-team group with one point, six adrift of leaders Felda United who beat current holders Pahang 3-2.

JDT II move into third spot in Group A on three points, three behind Pahang.
