Football: Departing Falcao thanks Man United fans

LONDON (AFP) - Radamel Falcao thanked Manchester United's supporters on Monday, a day after the club announced that his disappointing loan spell from Monaco will not be extended.

Falcao, 29, joined United amid great fanfare last September, but United elected not to take up an option to make his loan move permanent after he scored only four goals in 29 appearances.

Falcao posted a picture of him celebrating one of those goals on Instagram and wrote: "I wanna thank Manchester United and all its fans for every word and gesture of support they gave me in every match. I'll never forget it!!"

The Colombia striker's wife Lorelei Taron had earlier posted a 'selfie' of her, Falcao and their two young children apparently sitting in an airport departure lounge.

Falcao scored goals prolifically for River Plate, Porto, Atletico Madrid and Monaco, but he appears to have been diminished by the serious knee injury sustained in January 2014 that kept him out of last year's World Cup.
