SINGAPORE - Work on two more stations on the new $24 billion Thomson-East Coast line has officially begun.
At the ground-breaking ceremony for the Stevens and Mount Pleasant Stations on Saturday morning, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said the new line would connect residents in the Moulmein and Tanglin-Cairnhill to the city centre and bring schools, offices and amenities closer to their homes.
At the Stevens Station, located near the junction of the Bukit Timah, Dunearn, Whitley and Stevens Roads, just opposite the Singapore Chinese Girls School, a 60m underpass leading to the school will also be built under the Bukit Timah Canal.
This underpass would be open before the Stevens and Mount Pleasant Stations open for operation in 2021, for the benefit of students and staff of the school, said Mr Lui.
