A video of a toddler nearly run over by two vehicles after he ran across a road has gone viral.

The one minute-long video, uploaded on the Facebook page of streetdirectory.com on Tuesday, has been shared more than 1,600 times so far in just over four hours.

It attracted more than 100 comments, with viewers praising the driver for paying attention to his surroundings and chiding the woman, believed to be the toddler's mother, for not holding his hand while crossing the road.

The incident apparently happened at about 8.50pm on May 2 in what appears to be a school zone along Bedok North Road.

Measures to enhance road safety in school zones are among the measures the government will implement to make roads safer.

They include initiatives such as lowering the speed limit to 40 kmh along roads fronting primary schools during certain hours. This complements measures such as the raising of the number of demerit points handed out for speeding and careless driving offences within school zones.
