Temporary bus interchange with priority queues opens in Yishun

SINGAPORE - A temporary bus interchange in Yishun that features priority queues for seniors, expectant mothers and people with special needs roared to life on Saturday morning.

It is the first bus interchange to have priority queues - which refers to dedicated areas next to each bus berth where people who need to sit can wait for their buses. Depending on response, LTA will look into having such priority queues at new and existing interchanges where space permits.

The new interchange was officially launched on Saturday morning by Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim and Mr Patrick Tay - MPs for Nee Soon GRC, where the interchange is located.

The temporary structure is located at the junction of Yishun Central and Yishun Central 1, adjacent to where the original interchange used to sit. It will serve residents of the area while the Yishun integrated transport hub is being built.

Slated to open in 2019, the hub will include an air-conditioned bus interchange, with an underpass link to Yishun MRT station. It will also be connected to the upcoming Northpoint City development.

The change will affect the routes of the existing 19 bus services. Four temporary bus stops will also be constructed in Yishun Central, Yishun Avenue 2 and Yishun Central 1.

The websites of SBS Transit and SMRT has more information on the affected routes.
