SMRT will end its seven Night Rider services more than two hours earlier from April 30 and run them only one-way from the city.

Services NR1, NR2, NR3, NR5, NR6, NR7 and NR8 will run from 11.30pm till 2am on Friday nights, Saturday nights and the eve of public holidays instead of 4.30am previously. These will also only operate in one direction from the city towards residential areas, instead of the current loop between housing estates and the city.

SMRT spokesman Alina Boey said the changes will allow the transport operator to "maintain a balance between reasonable services for commuters and business sustainability".

She noted that ridership for the Night Rider has dropped by more than 50 per cent since February 2008.

Ridership declined steadily over the years to 11,000 per night as of this February - which equates to about 350 passengers across seven services per night, she said.

The Night Rider service has a flat fare of $4.50. Passengers may contact the SMRT Customer Relations Centre at 1800-336-8900 during operating hours or visit www.smrt.com.sg for more information.
