Singapore to host Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress in 2019

SINGAPORE - Singapore is set to host the 26th Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress in 2019.

Since 1994, the ITS World Congress has been an annual international event. It serves as a platform for government transport agencies, industry players and academic and research institutions to discuss and showcase the latest global ITS products, technological achievements and trends.

The conference typically draws around 5,000 participants worldwide.

The host of the ITS World Congress is rotated among three regions - America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific.

Melbourne in Australia is the next city in this region to host the ITS World Congress in 2016, followed by Singapore in 2019. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) worked with the Intelligent Transportation Society Singapore (ITSS) to put up the bid proposal, with support from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and International Enterprise (IE) Singapore.

Said Mr Chew Men Leong, Chief Executive Officer of LTA: "With Singapore moving towards being a Smart Nation, we are well placed to host this prestigious event.

"We will take this opportunity to showcase how we have been able to use smart technology and other innovative ways to transform our land transport systems and, in turn, improve the travelling experience of all users."

The 2015 ITS World Congress will be held in Bordeaux, France, from October 5 to October 9.
