SINGAPORE - A Singapore Airlines flight was grounded on Monday due to a white powdery substance found on board before takeoff.

SQ806, bound for Beijing from Singapore, was scheduled to depart at 4.50 pm from Changi Airport, but tweets from passengers said that the plane was delayed due to discovery of a "suspicious white substance" in the baggage area at about 3.45 pm.

One user by the name of Bernie Baker also snapped pictures of emergency responders outside the aircraft, as well as white powder in the men's washroom.

A company spokesman said that the substance was found to be "harmless" after initial investigations. The 276 passengers and 16 crew on board were transferred to another aircraft, and the flight left at 7.20 pm, he added.
