Singapore Airlines will stop flying to Cairo, Egypt and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia from September because of poor demand.

The last flight to Cairo will be on September 28 and to Riyadh, two days after that, SIA said on Friday.

"The difficult decision to suspend the services was taken as a result of the sustained weak performance of both routes" the carrier added.

Customers with confirmed flights after the suspension of services will receive full refunds.

SIA, which currently flies three times a week to both Middle Eastern cities, is facing tough competition from carriers based in the region, namely Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways.
