SINGAPORE - While Malaysian authorities have suggested recently that the 2020 deadline for the high-speed rail (HSR) system between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur may be busted, there is no question that the project will eventually materialise, as both countries have displayed a firm commitment to it.

The prospect of zipping between two cities in around 90 minutes is an exciting one, and while customs and immigration requirements will have to be met, the HSR's convenience - compared to flying by airplane - will be a welcome one.

Malaysia has also confirmed the six stops where the HSR will take passengers: Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Seremban, Ayer Keroh, Muar, Batu Pahat and Nusajaya.
