SINGAPORE - A swinging arm device which draws electricity from a power line along the tracks became dislocated on the Sentosa monorail on Dec 4, causing a train to stall, and leaving 61 passengers stranded for up to four hours.
The design will be improved, said Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry and National Development Lee Yi Shyan said in Parliament on Thursday.
He said that the incident started with a defect in the power line at the monorail's Beach Station.
The power line, which was semi-embedded along tracks, had lost tensile strength over time and was dislodged, becoming entangled with an earlier train. This damaged both the train and the power line.
The swinging arm on the next train, which was carrying the 61 passengers, got dislocated, resulting in the train being stuck there.
Mr Lee said the design of the power lines will be improved, so that they do not protrude externally and cause damage when it is weakened.
