SINGAPORE - Commuters staying between the Yishun and Sembawang MRT stations on the North-South Line can look forward to a new MRT station, slated to be completed in 2019.
Works on the new Canberra station, which will be located along Canberra Link and serve residents staying in the Sembawang Springs and Montreal estates, will start in mid-2015, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Friday.
It is the second MRT station to be built on an existing rail line. The first one was Dover station on the East-West Line, opened in 2001.
The new station will cut travelling time towards Jurong East or the city centre by about 10 minutes, the LTA added.
It will have five entrances linking to the new housing estates across Canberra Link. Other features include elevated link bridges, as well as covered linkways to bus stops and pick-up/drop-off points.
