Move to standardise cab fare structure a good step but more can be done: Taxi association

SINGAPORE - New rules to govern how cab companies structure their fares are a good first step, said National Taxi Association executive adviser Ang Hin Kee.

But they should not merely prevent fares from becoming more complex. Rather they need to go further in simplifying them further, he added.

Speaking to the media following the Land Transport Authority's announcement of a standardised taxi fare structure, Mr Ang said more could be done to help commuters and taxi drivers.

The current business model, in which the flagdown rates are closely tied to the taxi rentals, could possibly be redesigned in the future, he said.

This may then minimise the variations in flagdown rates which has become a source of confusion for commuters.
